Pro Biker!

Image
Hi everyone!  I've already been in Wisconsin for three weeks! Days go by slowly but the weeks are going by so fast! It's definitely getting cold here and I'm getting nervous about the winter!  We are sharing our car with the sister in our apartment which means we have to bike sometimes. I haven't biked since I was little so it was time to relearn. I have to tell you that the phrase it's like riding a bike is not true! It was a struggle but I did it! Maybe after my mission I'll be a pro biker! This week we have zone conference with all the missionaries in our area and it was awesome! We got the opportunity to learn from our mission president and his wife! They told us to come prepared by writing a talk because he was going to call on a couple of us to open the meeting with it.  There were 40 missionaries and two got picked to speak. I was one of those two people! I was freaking out a little bit but I am so thankful I took a public speaking class.  At zone confere...

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza

Image
Hi everyone!  I hope you all are doing well!  Now I really wish I had a crazy story about a taco, a cat, a goat, cheese, and pizza but I don't. This is a card game that a member gave us and it is the most stupid yet one of the  most fun and dangerous games I have ever played. We might break a finger (see picture for proof).  I love it here so much! It is so pretty and everyone keeps telling me to wait until fall! All of the leaves are changing color and I am so excited! I am going to be honest this week has been tough but I have had so many experiences that have helped me know my purpose as a missionary. Everyone has told me that people wouldn't like what I was doing but I didn't know that it would be like this. We have been flipped off, told that our religion is not impressive at all, that we aren't educated enough to teach, and have been called names. This is discouraging but it is so worth it when we help people feel the peace and joy that the gospel brings us. Th...

Home Of The Cheese Heads!

Hi everyone! I have finally made it to the beautiful state of Wisconsin and I love it here!  It was so hard to say goodbye to the MTC and my amazing district but I was so excited to get here and start the work! Our adventure started at 3 in the morning when we left the MTC. A train, a bus, and two shuttles later, we finally made it to the airport. At one point we all somehow fit on a bus with about 80 pieces of luggage. We then flew to Phoenix and then Milwaukee! We got to meet our mission president and his wife who are the sweetest people ever! We then stayed the night in I think they told us the biggest Marriott in the states. The next day we finally got to meet who our trainer was going to be for the next 3 months and where we would go! My trainer's name is Sister Skousen and she is the best! She is so sweet! We are serving in the Green Bay area!! We are living in a cute little apartment with two other Sisters. It is tight but it's been fun! One of the sisters was actually i...

Your Missionary Has Arrived!

Image
Dear Nancy McGary ,     Sister McGary arrived safely in the Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission.  Wednesday morning, your missionary met their companion and learned about their new assigned area.  Before the missionaries traveled to their assigned areas, they received training from President and Sister Murphy and the Assistants.  You should hear from your missionary on Monday which is Preparation Day.     Letters and packages for missionaries can be addressed to the:     Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission Office  7111 W Edgerton Ave, Ste 100 Greenfield, WI. 53220.      You may send mail directly to her apartment but please be sure to communicate well as transfers happen every six weeks and not all apartments have secure places for package delivery.      We are so excited to serve with your missionary in the Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission.     All the best, Elder and Sister Nielson & Elder and Sister Ellis Wisco...

Week 3: I Leave For Wisconsin In 5 Days!

Hi everyone!  It hit me this week that I am a missionary! It still doesn't feel real! I am going to be honest this week has felt like a really spiritual EFY(church camp) and I have loved it. It is insane to see how much not only I have grown in this week but my entire district. I have been so blessed with such a fun and insightful group of elders and sisters! It is going to be hard to leave them on tuesday! My companion and I learned that the person that we have been teaching is actually an investigator and not just an actor. We felt like it went well but we are really hoping he was able to feel the love that God has for him. My district also had the opportunity to be in the choir! It felt so good to sing again!  I have learned so much from what a Kendama is to effective ways to teach how I personally feel the spirit.  In one of our devotionals this week, they talked about calling upon the power of heaven. I have witnessed how important prayer is this week. I know that ou...
